NEWS BRIEF

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The Democratic Party (DP) faction and other Members of Parliament have requested an urgent meeting to discuss the future of the monetary union between Curaçao and Sint Maarten and the role of the Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten (CBCS).

This follows statements regarding an upcoming parliamentary debate in Curaçao on the monetary union’s sustainability. MPs believe Sint Maarten must prepare for potential changes, as the arrangement established fifteen years ago is under scrutiny.

To address risks to Sint Maarten’s financial stability, Parliament needs to be informed and involved. A national assessment of the monetary union is essential for safeguarding the economy.

The MPs seek early engagement with the Minister of Finance to clarify government preparedness and policy regarding the monetary union and CBCS.
